because i love God

Sunday thoughts

I feel like its common to hear people say, “we go to church because we love god…”

This morning as I was getting ready for church my mind flashed to 10 years in the future when Remi might ask,

“Why do we go to church?”

I thought about that situation and the response I might give.

Reflecting on the idea that we go to church because we love God makes me think that as long as we show up, then we are good. Check the box.

No emphasis on the posture of our hearts or worship in our souls.

It made me think, I want my worship experience to be different. I want to go to church not just as a check-the-box-show-my-love-to-God-kind-of-way, but to show love to God by preparing my mind and heart AND to show love to people by being present.

What if part of the worship experience meant showing love to God through showing love to His people?

- meeting a new friend - helping with hectic kids - sitting next to someone lonely - listening intently to sermons and lessons - expressing gratitude for service and time taken to prepare for meetings and classes

To me this makes church an active experience, not passive.

I’m go to church because more often than not I feel Love by sharing It.
