dna

A poem written for Genetics (BIOL 3500) class --

In order for DNA to replicate it requires a complex machine. The replication begins at a sequence called OriC

DnaA increases in concentration, like me during a test, The binding creates a bubble that allows protein complexes to do the rest.

The complexes are made up of Dna B and C These helicase structures attach before the loaders are released

Helicase requires energy like me in the morning A quick pick me up easily gets me going

The DNA is unwound like old apple headphones That process took forever which is why I got the pros

The helicases recruit help like team captains picking teams The primase is the first pick the obvious choice to me

Because next the primer is synthesized which is required for adding n.t.’s This process can’t happen without DNA polymerase 3

Complementary bases are added one by one From 5’ to 3’ the process is almost done!

Then you get two strands the leading and the lagging Which both need the proteins called single-strand binding

SSBs are presence saves strands from attack They cover single strands from the front to back

Replication ends when the DNA polymerase Meets the 5’ end it's time to disengage

Okazaki fragments are the ones that lag Their process repeats like a children’s game of tag

DNA polymerase 1 comes the fill the gap With nucleotides from the disconnected mishap

Finally the ligase closes the nicks That is how E. coli’s replication ticks
